Practical guides & answers

How far can roadside assistance tow your car?

There is no single towing distance that applies to every roadside program. Your enrollment documents define the allowance, destination rules, and any costs outside the included service.

Find the limit that belongs to your enrollment

Locate the towing section of your written benefit terms. A mileage allowance, a dollar cap, and a restriction to an approved destination work differently. Also check eligible vehicle types and how often you can request service.

AAPP’s online offer at GetAAPP.net currently describes towing up to 15 miles to an approved facility, with excess mileage paid by the member. That example is specific to the online offer; it does not replace a different telephone or partner program’s documents.

Ask how the distance is determined

Before choosing a repair facility, ask dispatch how the allowance is measured and whether your destination qualifies. Explain if you prefer a particular shop. A closer approved destination and a preferred shop farther away can lead to different costs.

Understand charges beyond the distance

Additional mileage is only one possible expense. Ask about storage, special equipment, recovery, tolls, after-hours charges, or other items that may fall outside your benefit. Request the amount or how it will be calculated before authorizing it.

If you already arranged a tow

Keep the itemized bill, service date, pickup and drop-off locations, and any authorization reference. Contact support to review your program’s reimbursement provisions, if any. Independent payment alone does not guarantee repayment.

Have a question about your account?

Your enrollment documents identify the benefits, eligibility, limits, and service instructions that apply to you.
